Lately, it seems like there are more tournaments, than players. And that’s only going to increase.
What you need to know:
Every year, there are three national tournaments that we’ll refer to as Majors, each of which are organized independently of each other:
- U.S. Open in Naples, Florida during April
- Tournament of Champions (TOC) in Brigham City, Utah (yes, Utah) during August
- Nationals at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden during November
- (yes, the same venue as the BNP Parisbas Open tennis event).
There is also another tournament organizing body known as Pickleball.Global and they focus on the international aspect of competitive pickleball, while also having a presence in the competitive domestic pickleball landscape.
Their latest tournament was the 2021 World Pickleball Championships held at the PicklePLEX in Punta Gorda, FL – Feb 3 – 7, 2021.

Then there’s the PPA Tour and the APP Tour – the two ‘professional tours’ that got up and going in 2020; both had to trim their schedule because of Covid-19 and are scheduled for 2021 Tour Stops.
(Yes, they have almost the same names, just the reverse of each other – the Professional Pickleball Association and the Association of Pickleball Professionals. The only question is whether or not this was on purpose.)

Nationals at Indian Wells – 2018 & 2019 were the first two years of a five-year deal at one of the tennis meccas of the world. 2020 was cancelled because of Covid-19, but as of today, Nationals 2021 is scheduled for Nov. 6-13.

The US Open of Pickleball, held in April at Naples, Florida, this year from April 17 – 24, 2021 – first four years saw hundreds of players paying approximately $100+ per player registration. 5th year totals (Before Covid postponement to 2021) were/are over 2,600 players were/are expected over 7 days.
Turkey Shootout – The TWiPball staff got the ‘Best of the Intermediate Best‘ got together to Dink, Drive and Laugh their way to one of the most unique tournaments to hit the Pickleball landscape.
